GEOGRAPHICAL STRUCTURE

Geography of Vellinezhi Grama Panchayat

Vellinezhi Grama Panchayat is located in the eastern part of Palakkad district in the state of Kerala. The panchayat lies in a predominantly rural region characterized by fertile agricultural lands, small hills, traditional settlements, and a rich natural environment.

The area experiences a tropical monsoon climate with moderate to high rainfall during the southwest and northeast monsoon seasons. The climate supports agriculture as the major occupation of the people. Paddy fields, coconut groves, banana cultivation, and other seasonal crops are commonly found across the region.

Vellinezhi is situated close to the cultural and ecological transition zone between the plains of Palakkad and the central regions of Kerala. The terrain is generally plain with gently undulating landscapes and scattered water bodies, ponds, and canals that support irrigation and groundwater recharge.

The panchayat is well connected by local roads to nearby towns such as Ottapalam and Shoranur. Its geographical setting contributes to both agricultural development and the preservation of traditional village life.

The natural vegetation of the area includes tropical trees, shrubs, and cultivated plants typical of Kerala’s midland regions. The soil is generally fertile and suitable for agriculture, especially paddy cultivation.

Vellinezhi is also known for its cultural heritage and traditional art forms, which developed in harmony with the village’s geographical and environmental conditions.
